Product Description Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 03/30/2010 Rating: Pg13
Guy Ritchie (Snatch, RocknRolla) attempts to reinvent one of the world's most iconic literary figures as an action hero in this brawny, visually arresting period adventure. Robert Downey Jr. is an intriguing choice for the Great Detective, and if he occasionally murmurs his lines a pitch or two out of hearing range, his trademark bristling energy and off-kilter humor do much to sell Ritchie's notion of Holmes. Jude Law is equally well-equipped as a more active Dr. Watson--he's closer to Robert Duvall's vigorous portrayal in The Seven Per-Cent Solution than to Nigel Bruce--and together, they make for an engaging team. Too bad the plot they're thrust into is such a mess--a bustling and disorganized flurry of martial arts, black magic, and overwhelming set pieces centered around Mark Strong's Crowley-esque cult leader (no Professor Moriarty, he), who returns from the grave to exact revenge. Downey and Law's amped-up Holmes and Watson are built for the challenge of riding this roller coaster with the audience; however, Rachel McAdams as Holmes's love interest, Irene Adler (here a markedly different character than the one in Arthur Conan Doyle's "A Scandal in Bohemia"), and Kelly Reilly as Mary Morstan, the future Mrs. Watson, are cast to the wind in the wake of Ritchie's hurricane pace. One can imagine this not sitting well with ardent Sherlockians; all others may find this Sherlock Holmes marvelous if calorie-free popcorn entertainment, with the CGI rendering of Victorian-era London particularly appealing eye candy. --Paul Gaita

Sherlock Holmes Bluray September 6, 2010 eddieovando I was slightly disappointed with this purchase. I've purchased from you guys before and I've gotten quality products but not this time. The Bluray that was sent to me was not the original Bluray that was in the box. It was a Bluray that was a rental off of Redbox, Blockbuster or some other DVD rental location. The Bluray itself says "Rental".
Excellent Movie. September 5, 2010 Ashley Wanger (Tahlequah, OK) I always look for movies with a great dialouge. This definatly fits the bill.
Sherlock Holmes September 5, 2010 The Shadow (Elmira ny usa)
Basically the same as the earlier one, but also a lot different then i had expected with better special effects and more flare, and a different story line then i have know. the earlier film showed him a lot different, also Homes. Basically a good addition to my collection.
Dull September 5, 2010 Irfan A. Alvi (Towson, MD USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
For me, the negatives outweigh the positives of this movie, and I found it dull overall.
To start with the positives, (a) I always enjoy historical British settings and (b) Holmes' powers of hyperperception and hyperinference (as much inductive as deductive) made me wonder if I couldn't do better myself if I tried harder.
But on the negative side, (a) I found the portrayal of Holmes as slovenly and borderline disfunctional to be hard to swallow, (b) I literally found it difficult to understand what Holme's was saying much of the time, due to his rapid yet quiet mumbling, (c) the plot is fairly childish and somewhat disjointed, and (d) the pace is slow, to the extent that it felt like it took foreover to finish the movie.
The bottom line is that I can't recommend this movie and I wish I had watched something else, though I recognize that some people may be able to focus on the positives enough to enjoy the movie.
refuses to play August 29, 2010 Bill (Georgia) 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
I would love to give a glowing revue of the BD version of this movie, but I can't. Not because the movie is bad, but because after being forced to wait through the commercials, my Memorex BD player displayed a blank screen as it played the title music then refused to do anyting else.
