Product Description
THE SUDDEN DISCOVERY OF A PYRAMID FROZEN UNDER THE ICE OF ANTARTICA RESULTS IN THE DISPATCHMENT OF A TEAM OF SCIENTISTS AND ADVENTURERS TO INVESTIGATE. ONCE THEY ENTER THE UNDERGROUND PYRAMID, THE TEAM COMES FACE TO FACE WITH AN ANCIENT BATTLE BETWEEN TWO ALIEN SPECIES - A BATTLE THAT WILL COME TO A HEAD.

In delivering PG-13-rated excitement, Alien vs. Predator is an acceptably average science-fiction action thriller with some noteworthy highlights, even if it squanders its opportunity to intelligently combine two popular and R-rated franchises. Rabid fans can justifiably ask "Is that all there is?" after a decade of development hell and eager anticipation, but we're compensated by reasonably logical connections to the Alien legacy and the still-kicking Predator franchise (which hinted at AVP rivalry at the end of Predator 2); some cleverly claustrophobic sets, tense atmosphere and impressive digital effects; and a climactic AVP smackdown that's not half bad. This disposable junk should've been better, but nobody who's seen Mortal Kombat or Resident Evil should be surprised by writer-director Paul W.S. Anderson's lack of imagination. As a brisk, 90-minute exercise in generic thrills, however, Anderson's work is occasionally impressive... right up to his shameless opening for yet another sequel. --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fantastic Film   June 23, 2010
I, Da Ca$hman (Colorado)
For all my reviews visit my website

I am NOT reviewing the DVD. Just the movies unless otherwise stated.

Please note that the rating above might not accurately reflect my thoughts, you will see a rating sentence at the end of the review.

You know, I heard a story that an old lady walked into the 300 premier and asked "what movie is this?" To a guy in the audience. So the guy picks her up, sets her almost tripping down the stairs and goes "THIS...IS...SPAARTAAAAAAA!!!!!" And kicks her down the stairs. That's awesome, but here's my only problem: why don't movies like this and Freddy vs. Jason have those kinda fan bases all over the place?!?

That movie, was #$%^ing awesome! It was definably on par with Freddy vs. Jason, and you KNOW how much I love Freddy vs. Jason! Some people might not like it because it's got a PG-13 rating and there's not enough gore. Others might feel the atmosphere is not right for an Alien or a Predator movie. Others don't like crossovers. I've heard this Devil quote so many times "Hollywood just goes and takes what's popular and mashes it together." ...Okay, I don't see what's wrong with that! Lemme re-phrase that: If you don't like crossovers, you aren't a movie nerd. If you don't wanna be a movie nerd, you might aswell not even like movies. If you don't like movies, you're missing out on a heck of a lot of stuff.

That said, let's get down to tiny details and major awesomeness. One of the greatest things for purists and CGI haters like myself i9s that they don't #%$^ around with stupid CG, they put actors in suits and use puppets, robots, whatever is real effects. Unfortunately this movie takes risks. I say unfortunately because that can backfire. Even if it doesn't backfire, it still gets more people to hate. WTH am I talking about? You have to watch the entire movie, you really can't miss any of it unless you don't wanna get the full experience. If you do watch the whole thing, your gonna love the twist ending.

Now let's get down to the plot: People go to Antarctica and find Aliens and Predators. That, is the non-spoiler one. Here's the spoiler plot: Scientists go to Antarctica because there is a pyramid there that seems to have been built by the Cambodians, Mayans and Egyptians all at the same time. So, they go in, and they get themselves caught up in a war between the two species. They find the origin of the two species, and eventually they all get killed except for one who takes a very interesting turn. Still didn't completely spoil it for ya didn't I?

Needless to say, this is already awesome. I wanna see more AVP and FVJ heck let's go AVPVT and FVJVM (Alien vs. Predator vs. Terminator and Freddy vs. Jason vs. Michael.) But were not over. You'll be glad to know that the Alien species is kept the H.R. style, and the Predators have been buffed up. Either way, it's awesome. Now, this is a prequel to Alien, so there is no Sigourney Weiver. (IDNK how to spell her name.) But, there is awesomeness. Pure awesome war scenes between the two, and it's a movie with real effects so don't expect it to be 10/5 action but have you really ever seen that? Seriously, this is 5/5 action and 6/5 climax.

Oh, speaking of the climax, it seemed they pulled out some tactics from the Jurassic Park Lost World game. You know that one that's always broken at the arcade? Yeah, I guess I better tell you Queen Alien is involved. And man, she is just as bad@$$ as she always has been. And how does Predator equalize? Well sir, who says he does? But trust me, if your a fan of either side your gonna love this movie. It only has disappointment in very brief and slightly important scenes. I'll restate: there's not enough blood. Why is it PG-13, just why? Well, you know I love this movie, but I'm also a gore hound. However I understand the Alien and Predator series were trying to cash in on the chiller style and not so much gore and shock. Oh, and there's a scene where you will expect Michael Jackson.

There's so much more pure awesomenss to talk about, but I cannot explain half of it and the other half will spoil it beyond belief. So therefore, if you haven't seen it, buy it. Every single Horror, Sci-Fi, Fantasy and dare I say Action fan should buy this!

The Rating? 6/5. I think I've only given 3-5 movies that rating.

3 out of 5 stars Unrated Edition: Not a big improvement, but yeah, slightly better.   June 9, 2010

The main difference between the Unrated and Theatrical edition of Alien vs Predator, are some deleted scenes, that are here to provide us more info about the characters, on the build-up first half of the film. Sadly, after that build-up, the film never fully delivers. It's like the characters (included the 3 different Predators) are already there to make us care for them, but ultimately the film never delivers in the tension it could have easily had.
Also, the deaths on this version are presented with added CGI blood, which as absurd as it sounds, works sort of well, since it feels nearer to a Predator or Alien flick than its theatrical PG-13 version. It never gets too gory here, and the deaths are as anti-climactic as in the original cut. No fights are added (as the back-cover announces), just those added character scenes. Anyway, if you're a fan of the franchise like me, picking up this DVD with such a great presentation and those few added elements will make you view this film as a more decent effort. Avoid Aliens vs Predator: Requiem, which is insulting to most fans of the original films. This at least has great sets and and interesting story that could have been better explored with a more capable director.

3 out of 5 stars Aliens, Predators, and Lance Henriksen, OH MY!   March 12, 2010

The first and most obvious thing you should know about AVP: Alien Vs Predator is that it's not going to win any Oscars nor does it want to. This is a popcorn movie all the way through; 101 minutes of turn-your-brain-off-and-enjoy entertainment. Remember that going into this movie and you'll be a-okay.

With that out of the way, what is there left to say? If you like Aliens and Predators or you just want to see the two duke it out, then go for it. Of course my advice would be to rent the movie first to judge for yourself whether or not it's worth buying. If you're buying the Blu-ray version, then you should know that both the Theatrical Version and Unrated Extended Version are on the same disc. But be warned that, other than two Commentary tracks (for the Theatrical Version only) and a Trivia Track, there are no extras on the disc. None. Zero. Nada. There's no behind-the-scenes footage whatsoever, which is disappointing. On the other hand, there's one Commentary in which Sanaa Lathan talks about "flying vaginas" so that's pretty interesting. Or completely creepy. You decide.

Anyway, that's all there is to this movie. If you've seen Paul W.S. Anderson's previous films, such as Mortal Kombat or Resident Evil or his post-AVP masterpiece known as Death Race, then you pretty much know what to expect from AVP. This is a movie that's all about plenty of mindless action that hopefully keeps your mind off of the weak story. But hey, there's nothing wrong with that. Every so often I like to sit back, relax, and watch a movie that doesn't try to make me care about anything other than how big an explosion is. Okay, I did care about Lance Henriksen. But how could I not? He's Lance frickin' Henriksen!

4 out of 5 stars good source of entertainment if you like strong women   February 22, 2010

I wanted this film only for the female lead character I was interested in how Ms Lathan would perform in a true action film I thought she carried her own and was proud to add this title to my collection. I also thought the fight scene between the two alien species were well done and probably the best parts of the movie

The movie is decent, but in the end I would call it a one time see movie. Still if you're a alien fan it's a good idea to have this movie in your collecton.
