Product Description
Blending fact with fiction, the television series about "Seinfeld" co-creator Larry David.

It's more of the same for Larry David's sitcom from HBO, and for fans, that's a good thing. The show--largely extemporized--follows suit of David's former series, Seinfeld: it's a show about nothing, just the everyday life of the star going about his pseudo-real world. But David's show has far more edge (thanks, in part, to airing on cable TV) with all the bad luck, embarrassing situations, and dreadful behavior as its premiere season. The closest thing to an arc is David's season-long pitch to the networks for a new show starring former Seinfeld stars Jason Alexander and Julia-Louis Dreyfus. Each network is lampooned, especially HBO, which David has a bad history with in this alternate world. Sure to repel those with soft funny bones, Curb's acerbic comedy allows jokes where David is accidentally framed--if ever so briefly--as a child molester, wife abuser, or murderer. But for those who do love his shtick, there are big laughs, especially when we bump into characters as unbridled as David, like a fellow writer who is quite protective of his dad's invention, the Cobb salad.

Many comic actors pop up, some as "themselves" (Richard Lewis, Rob Reiner) and others as characters (Rita Wilson, Ed Asner) along with the delights of co-stars Cheryl Hines as David's wife and his affable manger, Jeff Garlin. There are several touchstone bits: what a thong brief can do to a relationship, a run-in with pro wrestler, Larry's first baptism, and one very collectible doll. To pick one episode to capture this second season--and its grandstanding nature--it would be "Shaq," in which the NBA star is accidentally tripped, changing David's usual bad luck with gut-busting results. --Doug Thomas

1 out of 5 stars I Love Curb your enthusiasm, but was missing a disc   August 3, 2010

I absolutely love curb your enthusiasm, but when the time came to watch the 2nd disc it was not there. I know I should have checked from the beginning, but inside the case there is a still photo of Larry David and I thought that was the disc. I'm sure this had nothing to do with Amazon but the company who sent it to me ( I don't remember the company) has some explaining to do.

5 out of 5 stars Always a winner with Larry David   February 6, 2010

I can't say enough about this series. I am on the second season right now, but I own all five. They get better with every episode. Larry David for President.

I absolutely love this series. I didnt get hooked into until I saw the seventh season which was great. So I had to go out and buy all the rest of the seasons and overdose on it! It is excellent. Larry David is George Constanza!

5 out of 5 stars Curb Your Enthusiasm - Season Two   September 14, 2009

Well, who would think that Larry David is by me considered one of the funniest guys on the planet, knowing my "politics"?! Indeed he is, though! In an age where humour is mostly on the level of "Friends", it is hard to find any show that is worth to waste some time with. This show, though, can make me laugh so hard my fiancée sometimes looks at me strangely. It has its very dull moments too, not to mention that the show is (obviously) as Jewish as a show can get. Everything is there, the extreme "liberal/leftist" political opinions, the references to Jewish secular culture and mannerisms constantly, the anti-gentile tone and of course, the trophy "shiksa" wife of Mister David himself. That being said, (although it is of course not 100 % real, being a show and all) it offers very fascinating insights into a culture that is closed for us slow-witted gentiles, at the same time that it is a very self-ironic show. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the show is really "anti-gentile" or something like that, it is more "anti-Jewish" if anything, considering how it makes fun of them. The show kicks both "Left" and "Right", and like South Park is really a show for every "side".

The "pathetic" figure of Richard Lewis, and his interplay with Larry David, not to mention the no-spine manager of theirs; Jeff, really makes this one of the funniest and most surreal shows out there. I laugh onto the floor in every scene including either of these two characters, and especially while they fight Mister David. Every episode in this season is hillarious, perhaps except "The Thong" and "Shaq", which I found somewhat disgusting and boring. The whole Jason Alexander-thing is also quite dull, and should have been left out of an otherwise brilliant season. Beware, that there is nothing holy in the world of Larry David, but he's quite open about it, so not really the usual "hidden agendas" here. The extra material is really thin, though, I found nothing on this season at all. 4 stars.
